Tucked away on the serene, 89 wooded acres campus of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio, the Sophia Center offers a full spectrum of therapeutic services that provide an integrated and holistic approach to achieving inner health and well-being. With a wide range of services from individual, group, marriage and family counseling, to testing, educational consultation, massage and hypnotherapy, as well as workshops, in-services and special presentations, the Sophia Center strives to help its clients heal and live life to its fullest despite any personal challenges they may face. Grounded in the faith and mission of the Franciscans, the Sophia Center’s staff of professional psychologists and therapists can uniquely integrate their clients’ faith into their healing process, if they so desire.
In 1993, Sister Rachel Nijakowski, PhD, founded the Sophia Center to assist all who were struggling with life issues, especially women and children. Today the Sophia Center offers comprehensive services for children, adolescents, college students, and adults.
The name Sophia means “Wisdom of God” and aptly reflects our philosophy of a balanced, integrated, synergistic approach to achieving inner health, well-being, and peace. The Sophia Center is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio and a member of Sylvania Franciscan Health.
Through the use of integrated healing, our mission is to nurture and guide our clients in finding their unique value, dignity and potential to live life as well-balanced individuals in mind, body and heart. By providing a holistic approach to mental, physical and emotional well-being, our staff is dedicated to empowering each and every client to have a positive self-image, effective communication, and strong support systems.
